Week 11 Devlog

This week was a big push for the shop mechanics and getting functional items to buy! We also worked heavily on the boss fight and its primary mechanics. Other improvements have been made in the squid enemy type, door connections between dungeon modules, and sprites to distinguish between buffs!

Shop System

The shop allows players to buy multiple buffs and a full heal that can regenerate the player's health over time. These mechanics can be expanded into world spawn items and provide us a gateway to creating more ways to alter the player's stats. The Buffs now appear above the player's health bar and display the amount obtained so the player knows what stats are being changed and how much. Implementing the currency drops and balancing shop items is to come soon!

Boss Mechanics

The Slime Boss fight is currently well in progress having the slime boss choose randomly between 3 abilities: Large Jump, Follow Player, and a side & frontal attack. While this is still being worked on for multiplayer compatibility, the boss fight is still in progress and we are looking to have it spawn slimes in each of his abilities like when he lands and a specific spawning ability.

Enemy Types

The squid enemy now appears when a player comes close to them and just needs to attack when the player is closer. To stay within scope, we are only currently planning on having these two enemy types, however if the opportunity arises we will push for more types before this current deadline!

Dungeon Décor

Environmental design is our current priority as all basic rooms have been created and progress is being made on the shop and basic rooms to further push the cave environment. We will need to work on lighting, sprite decorations, and misc. objects/effects such as light rays, puddles, and stalagmites.

We are also making an effort to start on marketing design for the game with the cover art and a (current) running title for the game: Fragments of Shadow. As planning continues and ideas become more cemented, the plan is to release some lore behind the idea of the game.
