Week 8 Devlog
This week, the team worked on implementing the game's core functions and adding the main gameplay assets. Our first boss, The King Slime has been created, with core animations. We are still looking to improve and add upon the boss to make King Slime memorable and have unique attacks in its animations. Other sprites we started progress on include a new weapon variation for the main character to use and environment sprites to help enhance the levels.
We started implementing enemy AI into our game. We researched how to implement AI health, damage, movement, and death animations into our game to start implementing working enemies. Currently, we have the basic functions set up for a generic slime enemy to follow, attack, and kill the player character. With this implementation of generic enemy AI we plan on bringing in our other enemies and helping further push the different attacks and mechanics enemies will have.
We have begun creating modular rooms for use in our procedural map generation. We have developed various corridors, 1x1, 1x2, and 2x2 rooms that align with our theme and style. Currently, we are aiming for a cave dungeon theme with mixes of realism and stylistic pixel art objects for our style. We are still in the process of updating different rooms and enhancing the level design of each room as well to create an engaging environment. Some rooms of focus we aim to finish this week are the shop and boss room as they are important rooms that every player will visit.
*The team also started working to get closer to a playable state. We have been working on fixing the multiplayer so the game is hosted on servers that the clients are communicating with. As well as pulling data from the client side to servers so the game functions correctly such as coin collection.
